Thinking About Restylane in Chapel Hill? 4 Things You Should Know from the Office That Did the Clinical Trials

Restylane Filler Treatment Chapel Hill
By: Lisa Ishii, MD | Cosmetic Dermatologist

Restylane first received FDA approval in 2003 for the treatment of facial wrinkles and folds. Since then, the brand has expanded its portfolio to include a wide range of hyaluronic acid-based fillers. At Aesthetic Solutions in Chapel Hill, we’ve proudly been home to six clinical trials for the Restylane family of fillers. In this blog, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Lisa Ishii shares the four key things patients should know before starting filler treatment.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is one of several brands of hyaluronic acid-based fillers (HA Fillers) that we offer. Within the Restylane brand, there is a broad portfolio of HA Filler subtypes that have different properties and uses. At our office, Restylane is part of a broader toolkit that includes other well-established HA filler lines such as the Juvéderm family of fillers, RHA Collection, and Evolysse fillers. Each has its strengths, and choosing the right one depends on your individual goals, facial anatomy, and desired results.

What to Expect Before, During and After Filler Treatment

The treatment starts with a comprehensive consultation. For patients of Dr. Ishii, she will begin by assessing how your facial structure has changed over time – considering bone, fat, and skin. Then a treatment plan can be developed. Fillers may, or may not, be part of that.

On the day of treatment, a topical numbing agent helps minimize discomfort. Most patients experience some mild swelling or bruising afterward, which typically resolves within a few days. Filler results evolve over time; you’ll likely see your best outcome about two weeks post-procedure, once the product has fully integrated into your tissue.

How to Choose the Best Injector in Chapel Hill

Your aesthetic journey is a very personal choice. Dr. Ishii recommends consulting with a few offices to ensure that your aesthetic, goals, and values align with your injector. Look for your injector’s credentials, background, and licensing to ensure that you are comfortable with their level of training. Review the injector’s portfolio of before and after photos. Are the results natural? Are the photos consistent? Most importantly, do the photos align with your aesthetic goals?

Once you are in the office, make sure you are comfortable with the office and injector. You should never feel pressured or have unanswered questions before going into treatment!

Line Filling vs Facial Balancing – How to Get a Natural Filler Results

It’s tempting to focus on one wrinkle or line, but great results come from understanding the bigger picture. Rather than simply “filling” a line, we take a holistic approach: evaluating how volume loss in one area may be contributing to shadows or folds elsewhere.

The goal is facial balance and support, not over-correction. When done well, filler should enhance your features in a way that feels refreshed – not obvious. – Dr. Lisa Ishii

Can Fillers Be Combined with Other Treatments?

Absolutely. In fact, a multifactorial treatment regimen is the best way to get natural and comprehensive results. If appropriate, Dr. Ishii oftentimes combine neuromodulators and biostimulatory injectables on the same day as HA Fillers. Restylane and other HA Fillers are wonderful tools to help us restore facial balance and architecture, so your facial skin quality should match too! Energy-based devices and medical grade skincare in combination with injectables will ensure healthy skin to keep up with your rejuvenated facial structure.

Whether you’re looking to restore facial volume or enhance your natural features, fillers are a safe and effective option. The key to beautiful, natural-looking results lies not just in the product, but in the expertise of the injector.
