Laser tattoo removal is a laser treatment that permanently removes tattoos in the treated area.

How does Laser Tattoo Removal work?

Laser tattoo removal works by emitting a focused light energy to a tattoo’s pigment. The light selectively targets black, blue, red, yellow and green pigment, causing it to break up and fade away. We use the both the PicoSure Laser and Alexandrite Laser for Laser Tattoo Removal. The specific laser used during treatment will be determined by the characteristics of an individual’s tattoo. Our office uses PFD patches at no cost with all Laser Tattoo Removal treatments. The patch absorbs ink and allows for more passes in the treated area, reducing the total amount of treatments needed.

Is Laser Tattoo Removal safe?

The FDA has cleared the PicoSure and Alexandrite Laser to safely treat several issues related to skin tone and pigmentation. Laser Tattoo Removal has an excellent safety profile. Like any surgical or non-surgical procedure, there are risks. As a teacher and trainer of other physicians in laser procedures, Dr. Cox stresses the importance of finding an experienced physician who understands the finer points of laser treatment.

Laser Tattoo Removal downtime

Laser Tattoo Removal has some mild discomfort. Prior to treatment, a topical numbing agent will be applied. The procedure itself typically takes less than 15 minutes. After Laser Tattoo Removal there may be discomfort in the area for 24 hours, with sensitivity for up to a week as it heals. The treatment does require some post-care steps which will be explained to you prior to treatment. During the healing process, it is important to protect the area from sun exposure and to avoid picking at scabbing or washing the area too vigorously.

For optimal results, Laser Tattoo Removal requires a series of treatments. The number of treatments and cost varies based on a number of factors including tattoo size, age, color, type and depth of pigment. Once removed, the results from Laser Tattoo Removal are permanent.
