Xanthelasma is a benign condition characterized by soft, yellowish plaques that typically develop around the eyelids. These deposits form beneath the skin and are composed of cholesterol rich material. While not medically dangerous, they are often a cosmetic concern due to their visibility and tendency to persist or slowly enlarge over time.

What Causes Xanthelasma?
Xanthelasma develops when cholesterol containing deposits accumulate beneath the skin, most commonly near the eyelids. Although sometimes associated with elevated lipid levels or metabolic factors, many individuals with xanthelasma have normal cholesterol profiles. Genetics, age, and individual differences in lipid handling all play a role, which is why professional evaluation is often recommended when these lesions appear.

Treating Xanthelasma at Aesthetic Solutions
There are a variety of ways to treat Xanthelasma. At Aesthetic Solutions, this is treated with resurfacing lasers. By delivering energy deep into the skin, we can remove the Xanthelasma while causing minimal trauma to the surrounding healthy tissue.
Laser for Xanthelasma is conducted in a precise, targeted manner. Because of this the downtime is confined to a small area and on average lasts 7-10 days. Full post operative instructions will be covered by your physician prior to treatment.
Optimal results are seen as the area heals. Patients are typically happy with results one month after treatment, with optimal results at three months.
