What is Sebaceous Hyperplasia?

Sebaceous hyperplasia is a common, benign skin condition characterized by small, soft, yellowish or flesh colored bumps that typically appear on the face. These lesions result from enlarged sebaceous glands and are frequently mistaken for other skin concerns. While harmless, they can become more noticeable over time and may be a cosmetic concern for many patients.

What Causes Sebaceous Hyperplasia?

Sebaceous hyperplasia primarily develops due to age related changes in the skin and enlargement of the sebaceous glands. Genetics and hormonal factors can influence who develops these lesions, while cumulative sun exposure may contribute to their visibility over time.

Because the condition is driven by structural changes within the oil glands rather than surface skin issues, it typically does not respond to topical skincare products.
