Searching For a Top Doctor: What Sets Peer-Reviewed Recognition Apart
A 2018 study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research analyzed over 223,000 online reviews of more than 41,000 physicians and found that in several common outpatient specialties, physicians listed through Castle Connolly’s peer-review process had significantly higher online patient ratings compared with those not listed.
The research also showed that patient review scores do not always correlate with peer-review recognition across all specialties – particularly those with limited direct patient interaction – indicating that online ratings alone can be an incomplete measure of clinical expertise.
