CO2 laser resurfacing has long been the gold standard for deep skin rejuvenation. At Aesthetic Solutions, board certified dermatologist Dr. Lisa Ishii has taken this treatment even further with RewindTime. This innovative procedure layers four to six techniques for a multi-modal approach designed to comprehensively address wrinkles, scars, pigmentation, redness and more in a single treatment. In this blog, Dr. Ishii will review what RewindTime is, treatment benefits, and who is an ideal candidate.
What is Rewind Time?
RewindTime is a unique combination of the V-beam (Pulsed Dye Laser), Q-switched Alexandrite laser, fully ablative CO2 laser, and fully ablative Erbium:YAG laser to reverse sun damage, texture, and even stubborn etched lines over the face. Many patients choose to undergo RewindTime over their neck and chest as well, which includes adding in the Fraxel RE:PAIR fractionated CO2 laser and the Fraxel Dual laser. It is a dramatic reset of the skin that allows us to target numerous aging concerns in a single treatment.
Advantages of Multi-Modal Laser Layering
Lasers are specialized, with most lasers having a specific use in skin rejuvenation – this means that one laser can’t target all components of the facial aging process! The aging face with moderate to severe photodamage has redness and broken capillaries, brown spots, textural irregularities, and skin crepiness/laxity.
By layering these lasers, we can target all the above in one session. To ensure a balanced, natural, and harmonious result, targeting all of these components is key. – Dr. Lisa Ishii
What to Expect During RewindTime – Treatment Day and Beyond
RewindTime is an intensive treatment and therefore starts with a thorough consultation. We review your expectations, candidacy, and your availability for downtime. At your pre-operative visit 2 weeks before laser day, a neuromodulator treatment will set you up for success for healing. By healing over nonmoving skin, the recovery process is much smoother.
Treatment day starts with getting your blood drawn to prep the topical PRP and administering the pre medications if you elected to take these extra medications. Oral and intramuscular medications are combined to ensure you are comfortable throughout the procedure. V-beam and Q-Switched Alexandrite lasers are typically the first step. Numbing medication is then injected to ensure maximum comfort. After numbing, the resurfacing lasers (Fraxel Dual, CO2, and Erbium lasers) begin. Post treatment, a vinegar soak will be administered so you know exactly how to continue these at home.
The recovery consists of 14 days of wound care. During this time, follow up appointments every couple of days ensure you are healing appropriately and have any questions answered. It is normal to remain pink in the treated areas for up to 3-4 months post-treatment. For those who have a lot of redness, the V-beam laser can be done to help fade the redness faster.
Who is an Ideal Candidate for RewindTime?
Patients with moderate to severe sun damage and etched lines, particularly around the mouth are great candidates. This procedure is best for those who are committed to getting a dramatic outcome. This treatment is often done in collaboration with plastic surgeons six months before or after face/necklifts to ensure that the skin quality can match your surgical outcome for a holistic result.
