Anti-Aging In Your 50s
How To Look Younger In Your 50s
Women in their 50s are starting to really see the effects of aging settling in. Many women look in the mirror and think “where has the time gone.” I often hear patients say “I feel invisible.” If you’re used to the double-take walking down the street, it’s even more noticeable. Although patients don’t feel different physically than in their 30s, they start to wonder if things can be reversed. Patients at this age report their faces are “falling” and begin to consider surgery. I commonly see patients tugging their faces and necks back, but are worried that they’ll get an unnatural result. “I don’t want to look like Joan Rivers” or “I’m afraid my face will look stretched” are common concerns. Fifty-something’s are at the age they realize that anti-aging efforts start at a young age, and all the days spent basking in the sun are regretted. I get to share both the good (we can fix most of this) and the bad (it won’t be inexpensive) news. My essential 5 category plan kicks in here: Neuromodulators, Fillers, Lasers, Skin Tightening and Medical-Grade Skincare.
Neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Daxxify, Jeuveau ) – In your 50s, continue to get these injections every 3-4 months for fine lines and wrinkles. You may consider trying neuromodulators in your neck, for “necklace bands”.
Fillers – A routine part of your plan against anti-aging, get fillers 2-3 times per year for facial symmetry and volume loss. This may be a good time to begin treating volume loss in the temples.
As you age, fillers may take on a new purpose. Used properly, some fillers can serve as a biostimulate – meaning they aid in the collagen production process. Used on the neck, chest, abdomen, arms, hands, inner and other thighs and buttocks, fillers can help with sagging, crepey skin.
Sofwave – Remember when we talked about the aging process? Bones shrinking and fat pads shifting? As things start to head south and collagen production comes to a halt, Sofwave uses ultrasound technology to once again trigger the body’s natural collagen production process. The result is more lifted, tightened skin. Sofwave can be used on the face and neck and should be done yearly for best results.
Sculpt+Lift – For a far more dramatic lifting and tightening effect in the jowls and jawline area, the Sculpt+Lift is appropriate.
Fraxel or Halo Pro – Just like in your 40s, you should do one laser treatment roughly every year for concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, skin tone and texture and pore size. As you get older your skin thins, and lasers are the best way to maintain thicker, healthy skin. Continue to maintain these results with treatments like Clear + Brilliant or RF Microneedling/CoolPeel.
