Dr. Cox Discusses Botox For Men

Botox for Men

Popularity for cosmetic treatment is on the rise, and many men are overcoming the stigma associate with wrinkle reducing procedures. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Botox is the leading cosmetic procedure requested by men, with a 400 percent increase in spend since 2000. Publications are taking notice, as Botox for men continues to gain media popularity. In April 2024, Dr. Sue Ellen Cox shared her thoughts on Botox for men with New Beauty Magazine.

Why Do Men Get Botox?

Men get Botox for various reasons, just like women do. Many men are introduced to cosmetic procedures through a spouse, family member or friend. Often times after seeing the improvements in someone close to them, men will begin to try Botox with the same provider. Career advancement can also be a motivating factor. Ageism in the workplace can influence the way men feel about themselves and want to be perceived. May men feel pressure to maintain a youthful appearance as a way to be more competitive in their profession.

For men, though there is less of a stigma associated Botox, there are some key differences when it comes to the treatment itself.

Differences in Botox for Men and Botox for Women

For all Botox treatments, it’s important to choose an experienced injector and discuss your desired outcome ahead of time, whether that’s treating wrinkles or facial shaping. Expert knowledge of facial anatomy and precise dose and placement are what ultimately determine success. At Aesthetic Solutions, Dr. Cox believes an injector with a thorough understanding of facial anatomy and the nuances of various products is necessary to meet her clients’ goals.

For men, those goals might be different than most women who receive Botox, or require a different technique.

In her interview with New Beauty Magazine, Dr. Cox shared, “Males tend to prefer a flatter brow, avoiding the arched appearance typically associated with females. It’s crucial to consider this preference to ensure that the treatment aligns with their desired outcome, aiming for a straight or flat brow rather than an arched, feminine look.” Male patients typically have thicker skin and more prominent muscles, meaning injectors need to adapt technique and dosage.

When Should Men Start Botox?

When asked when men should start Botox, Dr. Cox elaborated, “If they tell me that people think that they look angry, I’m going to be treating their frown lines so that they no longer have those lines between their eyes.” Men, like women, should start cosmetic treatments when they feel their lines are becoming bothersome, and expect to see results within three to four days. Full results appear two weeks after treatment.
