Cellfina
Cellfina is a procedure that significantly reduces the appearance of dimples and puckering caused by cellulite.
How does Cellfina work?
Cellulite is caused by a structural issue in the skin, and occurs in an estimated 85% of women in the US. Bands of connective tissue called septae pull unevenly on the skin’s surface from within, causing the appearance of puckering and dimpling. Cellfina targets and releases these bands through a process called “subcision,” resolving the structural cause and allowing the skin to once again appear smooth at the surface.

Is Cellfina safe?
The FDA has cleared Cellfina to safely treat cellulite. It has an excellent safety profile. In clinical trials, no serious adverse effects were associated with Cellfina. Like any medical procedure, there are risks. As a teacher and trainer of other physicians in safe, effective body contouring, Dr. Cox stresses the importance of finding an experienced physician who understands the finer points of treatment.
Cellfina downtime
Cellfina is well tolerated. Comfort measures are developed for each patient based on the treatment plan, and may include medication to help you relax. A local numbing agent is administered during the procedure to minimize discomfort. A very small, precise micro-blade is used to release the bands under the skin at each dimple. The procedure usually lasts about an hour. Many patients bring earbuds or headphones and music to listen to during the procedure. You will need a driver to take you home.
Cellfina treatments have some downtime. On the day of treatment, we recommend rest following your procedure. While it is possible to return to your schedule the next day, we suggest taking it easy the day after treatment. Tylenol may be taken to manage any discomfort post-procedure. The most common side effects after the procedure are bruising, draining at the small incision sites, mild soreness and tenderness. Discomfort usually resolves within the first few days, and 90% of patients had no residual bruising at four weeks.
Cellfina results
Cellfina significantly reduces the appearence of cellulilte dimples on the thighs and buttocks. In clinical studies, patients reported a high percentage of satisfaction, which increased over time. Cellfina is most effective for people with distinct dimples or divets. It does not treat poor skin texture, sagging or fibrous banding, which have different structural causes than cellulite. Results appear as early as three days after treatment. Most patients are happy with results from one treatment.
