Try Fraxel for the latest and gentlest in laser resurfacing
In the right hands, laser resurfacing can smooth away crow’s feet and other fine wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. Even the stubborn lines that cause lipstick bleed can dramatically improve after a single treatment. Best of all, friends only notice that you look well-rested or refreshed.
But laser-resurfacing requires a truly expert hand.
Since 1994, our team leader Dr. Cox has performed laser resurfacing almost every single day of her practice. Thanks to her extensive experience, Dr. Cox knows which laser treatments, including Fraxel, will produce optimal results for each, individual patient in her care.
- Dr. Cox has performed laser resurfacing for twenty years. It’s simple, but true. She has performed these kinds of procedures many times, using many kinds of lasers.
- Early in her career, she trained with the best practitioners. In fact, Dr. Cox trained with the inventor of laser resurfacing, Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick. Dr. Cox trained intensively back then so you can feel confident now.
- Today, Dr. Cox teaches and trains other physicians. Dr. Cox regularly trains physicians and residents in best resurfacing practices.
- While she may not have written the book, she has written a chapter. Dr. Cox has contributed a chapter to the definitive textbook on laser resurfacing.

When the Fraxel Re:store® dual laser was first brought to market in 2009, Aesthetic Solutions was the only dermatologic and laser practice in North Carolina to offer it as a laser resurfacing treatment option. Back then, we put ourselves on the cutting edge of cosmetic practice so that today we can count ourselves amongst the most experienced users Fraxel® in the state of North Carolina, and likely the nation.
How does it work?
The Fraxel® laser reduces the signs of aging while protecting the skin from pre-cancers. It intensively treats the skin without affecting any surrounding tissue. This reduces healing time and promotes the skin’s natural ability to create new, healthy tissue to replace damaged cells.
Fraxel re:store® has two unique laser wavelengths that penetrate different layers of the skin. One laser specifically treats wrinkles and acne scarring; these are problems that occur deep in the skin. The second treatment mode targets sun spots, age spots, and tone and texture, all of which need intervention at the superficial skin layers. By combining the two Fraxel® treatment modes, patients can get more effective resurfacing in just one tool.
Treatments for the face take less than one hour. Only Dr. Cox performs this procedure.
What are the benefits of this technology?
This technology offers patients faster treatment times, increased comfort and an additional treatment mode for reducing pigmentation. The results are comparable to superficial CO2 resurfacing — WITHOUT the same degree of downtime or wound care.
What can I expect after treatment?
Generally, patients will experience some redness for several days. As your skin heals, you may see bronzing and peeling. There is no wound care, but you may apply moisturizer and sun protection as instructed. After the healing process, you can expect:
- Smoother, fresher and younger looking skin
- Improved tone and texture
- Reduced appearance of unwanted brown spots
How long until I see the results?
You may see some results immediately after treatment and after the healing process is complete. Results continue to improve over time and throughout your series of treatments.
How many treatments will I need?
Everyone’s skin is different, but typically patients can expect great results in multiple sessions, depending on your desired outcomes. These sessions are generally spaced two to six weeks apart.
Can I treat skin on other parts of the body?
With this new technology we can treat multiple areas in a single session. For example, in addition to treating sun spots on your face, we can treat them on your hands, neck and décolleté.
What exactly is the Fraxel Re:store Dual Wavelength Laser?
The Fraxel Re:store Dual Wavelength System is a non-invasive laser skin resurfacing treatment. It has been designed specifically to take a preemptive strike against aging issues such as wrinkles, loose skin and sun damage, in addition to treating pre-cancerous lesions.
Feather Touch Laser
Using the most advanced laser technology, the Feather Touch Laser gently treats the damage of sun and time. The Flashscan device quickly removes the paper-thin outer layer of skin, the epidermis, with pinpoint accuracy. The skin contracts and tightens as the laser vaporizes the water in the tissue. The heat penetrates into the skin no deeper than half the thickness of a human hair. The old skin is then wiped away, leaving the new skin underneath to develop and regenerate. The laser also tightens and shrinks the collagen in the skin. Collagen, directly beneath the epidermis, gives the skin firmness and helps keep it youthful looking. The laser helps stimulate collagen regrowth.
Patients may pinpoint a specific area for treatment such as around their eyes or mouth, or choose the full-face option for the most dramatic difference. The actual laser surgery time takes between 45 minutes and 2 hours and may be performed with either local, intravenous, or general anesthesia.
Advantages of the char free laser are numerous. The Feather Touch Laser procedures:
- Are virtually bloodless and chemical-free.
- Offer a greater margin of safety than any other tool for facial rejuvenation
- Offers more predictable and consistent result
- Minimizes the risk of scarring
- Decreases patient pain
- Has a low rate of infection
- Creates less bruising and swelling than dermabrasion or scalpel surgery.
Like any type of deep peel, the laser removes protective layers of the skin creating a wound similar to a severe sunburn, which takes approximately ten to fourteen days to heal. Redness of the skin may persist for weeks to months following surgery. During the first several weeks, patients should avoid the sun and keep their faces covered with a healing ointment, i.e., Aquaphor.
The skin will stay pink for a few weeks. The pink color is covered up easily with make-up. Make-up may be applied within two weeks after treatment.
Because laser resurfacing is an in-office procedure, it is minimally invasive which means you may return to work or your normal activities usually within two weeks after treatment.
Today, the CO2 laser has been perfected to correct numerous skin imperfections. Known as laser resurfacing, the CO2 laser is revolutionizing skin care and wrinkle treatment for sun-damaged skin, which is good news for past and present sun worshipers.
Laser resurfacing is a genuine breakthrough. In addition to its aesthetic benefits, laser resurfacing may also decrease skin cancer by removing sun-damaged skin. Perfected by dermatologists, laser resurfacing benefits include less risk of scarring, faster recovery and less change in pigmentation.
