What is Clear + Brilliant?
How does it work?
Clear + Brilliant is considered the most gentle of all resurfacing lasers, sometimes called a “mini-Fraxel.” Clear + Brilliant resurfaces the skin by causing controlled mild micro-injury to its outermost layer. The results occur as the body heals itself, replacing the old, damaged skin cells with new cells and increasing collagen production for a slightly uplifted look. Clear + Brilliant is a non-ablative fractionated laser, which means it works in a gentler, less invasive manner than other kinds of lasers. While ablative lasers remove the top layer of the skin, non-ablative lasers like Fraxel heat the targeted tissue without destroying it. The fractionated laser creates tiny columns of thermal injury, called micro-thermal zones, among the unaffected skin. This combination means that the treated skin will sustain less damage and heal faster than with other kinds of lasers.
What kind of results can I expect?
Patients can expect skin that feels softer and looks more even and radiant. Patients can also see a reduction in uneven texture, pigment and redness, acne, and report a “youthful glow.”
How long will the results last? How many treatments are necessary?
Patients will see fresher, more radiant skin after their first treatment. Many patients opt for a series of treatment for optimal results. Because the procedure has no down time, some patients simply make intermittent Clear + Brilliant treatments an ongoing part of their regular skin care routine. Results last several months, depending on the level of post-procedure care.
What can I expect during the procedure?
Before the procedure begins, a topical numbing gel will be applied to the treatment area. This ensures that you will feel as little discomfort as possible during the procedure. Once the numbing is complete, the gel will be removed, and the treatment area will be cleansed. We provide all patients with eye protection to block the eyes from laser exposure. The procedure itself only takes 20 minutes. Patient report a sensation of heat and prickling, and may experience mild discomfort.
How long does recovery take?
There is no downtime associated with Clear + Brilliant. Immediately after the procedure, patients often experience redness and slight discomfort, like a mild sunburn. You may experience mild redness, dryness and flaking, but this usually resolved within a few days of treatment. Some patients describe this recovery period as similar to “wind chapped” skin. Results are often visible immediately, with full outcomes visible within a week.
The FDA has approved Clear + Brilliant to safely treat the skin. It has also received a CE marking, meaning that it is approved for safe use in Europe as well.
What is the difference between Fraxel and Clear + Brilliant?
Fraxel and Clear + Brilliant are both non-ablative fractionated lasers that treat similar issues of tone and texture. Both are relatively gentle resurfacing treatments with no true downtime and relatively short recovery time. Comparatively, Fraxel is the more intensive procedure. It produces more dramatic results, and also requires a longer recovery time. Fraxel is ideal for older patients and those with moderate to severe issues. Clear + Brilliant is considered the most gentle laser resurfacing procedure and is sometimes called a “mini-Fraxel” treatment. It is ideal for restoring radiance to younger skin, for treating mild issues, and as maintenance treatments after more invasive lasers.
Who is a good candidate?
Clear + Brilliant treats a broad range of skin types and is an excellent choice for patients seeking an improvement in tone and texture. It is especially popular among patients who are proactive about their skin care and are seeking to address the early signs of aging. Clear + Brilliant is ideal for those who don’t have the indications of time for a more aggressive corrective laser treatment, but still want visible results. As with any procedure, good candidates are those who understand the procedure and post-treatment care, and have a realistic understanding of the results of the treatment.
