Frequently Asked Questions

BOTOX®
BOTOX® is one the most exciting developments to hit the cosmetics industry in decades. Tiny injections, done in minutes, can fade away lines that have been present for years. The team at Aesthetic Solutions can help you to understand your options and let you know if you too canbotox before and after benefit from this revolutionary technology.

BOTOX® is the brand name for a natural, purified protein, botulinum toxin type A. BOTOX® is used to smooth and relax the muscles that cause deep persistent facial lines. BOTOX® is injected directly into the overactive muscles that cause lines to form. By injecting extremely small doses of BOTOX® directly into a specific muscle, a muscle is relaxed for 3 –6 months. This relaxation of hyperfunctional muscles eliminates overlying wrinkles which cause the appearance of a stern, unhappy, or tired look.

Unlike surgery, BOTOX® is fast, simple, and minimally invasive, with no down time or recovery. Most people return to work or normal activity following treatment. Within days, they report looking and feeling more natural and relaxed. The actual treatment takes only a few minutes to perform and the BOTOX® takes effect in four to ten days. Your doctor will administer several tiny injections resulting in relaxation of the underlying muscle groups. Some patients choose to numb the area with an anesthetic cream prior to injecting. Gradually over three to five months the BOTOX® effect will fade and the muscle action will return. When the frown line starts to reappear, a simple repeat treatment is all that is necessary to maintain the desired results. Subsequent treatments may provide more of the desired effect than the previous treatments.

They were selected to participate in a physician training video for BOTOX® administration and have been a study center for BOTOX® patient satisfaction research and clinical trials. They are nationally recognized as lecturers on BOTOX® and have published recent articles on BOTOX® and its use. Aesthetic Solutions has the experience you are looking for.

Before After

WHERE DOES BOTOX® WORK BEST?
BOTOX® was first approved by the FDA for use on the frown lines between the eyebrows. The lines are caused by contraction of a muscle called the corrugator. This muscle often conveys the appearance of looking angry or worried. Injecting BOTOX® directly into this corrugator relaxes the overactive muscles whose repeated contractions cause the lines between your brows to form. Once the muscle is relaxed, the frown line will gradually lessen.

BOTOX® may dramatically help other facial lines as well. Other areas where BOTOX® has dramatic effects include the crow's feet, horizontal forehead wrinkles, and some necklines. In selected patients, Drs. Cox and Finn will use BOTOX® around the mouth to help smokers’ lines and to turn up the corner of a frowning mouth.
Before and After

SAFETY
BOTOX® has been used for decades for the treatment of strabismus (lazy eye) and blepharospasm (uncontrolled eye blinking) and has a excellent safety profile. Aesthetic Solutions has been using BOTOX® since 1995. The side effects experienced have been minor and temporary. The complications are related to the local injection of the solution. There will be slight discomfort from the needle entering the skin, and a small chance of a bruise at the site of the injection. Rare and temporary complications include eyelid ptosis, or drooping, and headaches. Please ask your doctor if you have any concerns.

OTHER USES OF BOTOX®
New uses and indications are being discovered at a frenetic pace. The toxin was initially used for treating children and adults with ophthalmologic disorders such as strabismus and spasm. BOTOX® has been FDA approved to treat blepharospasm, strabismus and cervical dystonia.

Excess sweating
Botulinum toxin has also been found to be beneficial for patients who have a problem with increased sweating, a condition called hyperhidrosis. This problem affects 4% of the population and can be extremely difficult to manage. BOTOX® is a safe and effective treatment for excess sweating in the palms and underarms for as long as six to twelve months. The emotional component associated with increased sweating is huge and BOTOX® treatment has truly changed many patients' lives.

Headaches
BOTOX® is showing great promise in the treatment of tension and migraine headaches as well. Studies have shown treatment can reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches in 60% of migraine sufferers. Although the treatment does not work for everyone, it can be a help in your overall treatment regimen. At Aesthetic Solutions, we can work with your other physicians to develop a treatment plan for you.

Frontiers
Other specialties are also researching applications of BOTOX®. Researchers have found promising applications in treatment of spasticity from stroke, cerebral palsy, clubfoot and other neurological disorders. Promise has be shown in the treatment of back pain as well. Excess drooling and facial asymmetry from nerve injury can be helped as well. Urologists have been using BOTOX® for bladder spasticity and gastroenterologists have been using it for various digestive disorders and obesity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Botox?
Botox is the brand name for a natural, purified protein, botulinum toxin type A. It is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can create a more relaxed appearance by temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines. Botox Cosmetic is the only treatment of its type approved by the FDA.

Where can I have it done?
Botox cosmetic has dramatic effects on the lines between your brows, crow's feet, horizontal forehead wrinkles, and some necklines  In selected patients, it can be used to turn up the corner of a frowning mouth.  Your doctor will determine exactly where to administer the injections to achieve the best results.

How does Botox Cosmetic help frown lines?
Botox cosmetic works by blocking the connection between the nerve and the muscle.  With less movement of the muscle, the skin surface gradually smoothes out and moderate to severe frown lines begin to fade.

What is the treatment like?
The treatment is minimally invasive and non-surgical.  Your doctor makes a few tiny injections into the muscles that cause the frown lines.  You may choose to numb the area with anesthetic cream prior to injection.  Botox Cosmetic requires no recovery time so you may resume normal activity immediately.

How soon will I see a difference?
You can expect to see results within days after your treatment.  The appearance of the area may continue to improve for up to a week.  Visible results can last up to four months.

How long does Botox last?
The effect of each treatment can last between four to six months.  Follow-up treatments will keep the area from returning to its pretreatment appearance.

What are the side effects of Botox?
The most common side effects include headache, nausea, muscle weakness and redness where the medicine was injected.  These effects generally occur within the first week and usually go away on their own.

How much do we charge?
We charge for Botox by the unit.  Usually 25 units will take care of the area between the eyes.  The cost for 25 units is $375.00 and increases $11 each additional unit after the first 25 units.  We do not offer discounts for multiple treatment areas.

Why do we charge per unit or per area?
We charge per unit so that patients know exactly how much they are getting each time that they come in. Often physicians will charge per area, we do not charge this way because you may not always get enough botox  in that area.

I don’t want to get botox again b/c when I was treated in another office it did not last very long.  Why should I have it done in your office?
We are one of a few national training centers chosen by Allergan, the manufacturer of Botox, in NC for physicians to learn the proper technique on injecting Botox. Dr. Finn and Dr. Cox have trained physicians from all around the country on the proper technique for injecting Botox. You will be in the best hands

What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis refers to excessive sweating.

How can I identify the severity of my sweating?
At consultation a Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale (HDSS) will be administered to determine if you should seek treatment.

What treatment options are available to me?
The first steps people take are the non-prescription topical antiperspirants and then the prescription topical antiperspirants.  When those methods fail, Botox is usually the next treatment option, followed by surgical removal of the sweat glands.

Can Botox treatment help?
Botox is FDA approved for severe underarm sweating.  It helps control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands.  When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.

Does treatment require anesthesia?
No, it is not necessary to have anesthesia for this procedure, although some patients opt to have it.  The hands and feet can be a painful area and because of this a nerve block is used to help with the pain.

What is a Botox treatment like?
Botox is injected underneath the arm, hands, or feet through a very fine needle.  You will receive several injections and a topical anesthesia may be applied prior to treatment.

Does insurance cover treatment?
Often times insurance companies will cover botox for hyperhidrosis is deemed medically necessary with prior approval.

Does insurance cover treatment for migraines?
With prior approval from your insurance company it may be covered
